I was blessed with becoming a Stepmom ten years ago to two wonderful boys by the name of Josh and Nathan. At the time they were three and five years old and I was and am honored to be part of their lives. I have watched them reach the ages of 13 and 15 and am excited for what God has in store for them and the outstanding young men they are becoming right before our eyes.
Right now I am writing this blog from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic as Brett and I are celebrating our ten year anniversary. Next month, we will celebrate our daughter Shelby's first birthday. Oh how time flies! Brett and I have always made a point of making time for "us" as a couple but I must say having a new baby has made that challenging.
Being Mom to Shelby has been such a blessing, so much fun, exhausting, exciting-the list goes on and on. Finding a balance to stay well though can be hard. Right after she was born Brett booked this vacation for us to for our anniversary. I joked that he was probably nervous that we would never take another vacation after having a baby, but I give him kudos because so far this has been a blissful getaway.
The entire resort is focused on your well-being and relaxation. Wi-Fi is available but can be a little spotty which I don't think is a bad thing. I think it is good to go through a "digital detox" every now and then. I must say getting on a plane and leaving the country on vacation was different this time and I miss my baby girl terribly. However, I know she is in wonderful hands with her grandparents and I also know that I need to recharge my batteries so I can be the best Mom possible. So easy to forget about that. As a Mom you never flip the "off" switch and you are always taking care of the needs of others.
So friends, I'm signing off to go enjoy take a yoga class on the beach and I will no doubt Skype later on so I can see and chat with Miss Shelby. But I ask you -- as a Mom what have you done to recharge your batteries lately?
